Board Member
As a Trustee and Non-Executive Director, I work at a governance level to provide scrutiny, support and oversight of organisations.
An example of a currently held position:
Prospectus: Non-Executive Director
Prospectus is a recruitment and advertising consultancy working to support the beyond profit sector.
A certified B-Corp, Prospectus is part of a global movement using business for good, and we practice our values of community, trust and collaboration across the business. I am proud of the extent in which we operate beyond the boundaries of recruitment and the level of engagement with the sector. We provide expert advice, host topical events, and have won many awards for our achievements. I feed into our governance framework that discusses and reports on strategy, risk, finance, people and inclusion
Examples of previously held positions:
Shaw Trust: Trustee
Shaw Trust delivers services on behalf of a range of commissioners, including the Department for Work & Pensions; Her Majesty’s Prison & Probation Services; the Department for Business, Energy & Industrial Strategy; the Department for Education; and a number of local authorities. Shaw Trust is one of the 20 largest charities in the UK. Each year they work with 50,000 people to help them achieve their employment, health care and learning ambitions.
As a trustee, I provided guidance and oversight on the strategic direction of the charity and, in addition, I sat on the HR Committee.
Action for Blind People (part of the RNIB Group): Trustee
In addition to core trustee activities, I contributed to the Board Development Committee and represented the Board on the RNIB Connect steering group. I offered advice and support to the Chair, Board and CEO in establishing and maintaining excellence in governance structures: reflecting geographical, cultural and devolutionary differences within the UK. I saw the charity through an association agreement with RNIB, which ultimately led to the merger of Action for Blind People into the RNIB Group.
“Steph was appointed as a Trustee when Action was embarking on a significant period of change. As a member of our board Steph provided challenge to our work particularly in the areas of inclusion and customer engagement and helped us to improve what we do and how we do it. She also provided incredible support through some difficult times and never shrunk away from being visible to justify decisions that Trustees made. Steph is truly unique and a person I would happily turn to for an objective and balanced perspective on a whole range of subjects.”

CEO, Action for Blind People (part of the RNIB Group)
