I like being busy, but 2014 has been a little too busy and my blog has been somewhat neglected.
I delivered my first disability awareness training on January 3rd and it seems my feet haven’t touched the ground since! I have delivered subsequent disability awareness training to Brooklyn Bowl at the O2, Imperial College, Turner Contemporary and to events organisers in Southwark. I have provided visual awareness training to Merton College, Defence, Science and Technology Laboratory (DSTL) and Lloyds.
With my Attitude is Everything hat on I designed and delivered equality training to all staff at London Legacy Development Corporation (LLDC). LLDC is the organisation behind Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park who are tasked with the not-so tiny task of transforming East London! This was a departure for me and Attitude is Everything as we tend to specialise in accessibility for disabled people. It was interesting to learn more about the other protected characteristics and share this learning with others. The feedback was pretty good and we have two more sessions coming up.
I have delivered personal development workshops to sensory impaired job sekers in Eastbourne and blind and partially sighted people at RNIB College Loughborough. Sight Concern Bedfordshire invited me to be their keynote speaker at their annual service user event and to make myself useful I also delivered an employment and self-employment workshop while I was there!
I recently attended a MIND mental health awareness training day so as to keep up-to-date and informed with all things mental health. I slotted in sitting on the interview panel to appoint to new directors for Action for Blind People. I also have had the privilege of coaching some new clients and it has been heartening to be part of their personal progress.
In addition I have recently become a trustee of the LHON Society which officially became a charity today! Hooray! This is a new organisation to support people directly affected by Lebers Hereditary Optic Neuropathy (my sight condition), their families and medical professionals.
In amongst all that I went to Rio for carnival (I don’t expect your heart to bleed for me on this one!)
Long story short I have not been writing regular blog posts and I aim to get back to at least posting something more than one every quarter!! Thanks for sticking with me and sorry for being so neglectful of my blogging.
