Inspirational Lemonade Maker: Suzanne Bull

Suzanne Bull is CEO of one of my favourite charities and she is now one of my Inspirational Lemonade Makers, as she is a great example of turning a bad experience into a force for good. Her love of music is pretty evident in her answers to the five questions below. However, her experiences of accessing live music in the past were at best difficult and at worst unsafe.Suzanne_speech

This led her to set up Attitude is Everything which works with artists, audiences and the music industry to improve the access for disabled people to live music. Things are greatly improved now and Suzanne has played a big part in many of these improvements. I am proud to be their freelance disability equality trainer and proud to have her as one of my Inspirational Lemonade Makers.

Here Suzanne gives her responses to the five questions asked of Inspirational Lemonade Makers:

What is your guilty pleasure?

Sweets and chocolate and cake and lots of it!

What book have you read that had a big impact on you?

“Never Mind The Bollocks: Women Rewrite Rock” by Amy Raphael. It contains a series of frank interviews with female musicians and has some of my favourite female musicians in it, such as Courtney Love and Debbie Smith (still a great friend of mine) and I’d recommend it to any women in the music industry. I also recommend “Riot Grrrl: Revolution Girl Style Now!” by Nadine Monem which is about a real special time in music. All those ladies inspired me!

Describe your perfect day

Probably reading those two books again in the garden and then going to a gig which had this line-up:

Drugstore

Kate Bush

Cocteau Twins

Spiritualized

Super Furry Animals

Jesus and Mary Chain

New Order

The Cure

What was the last thing you laughed out loud at?

This recent Facebook post from my sister: Just had a slightly embarrassing moment at McDonald’s waiting for the food. My kids were saying all the things they could see out of the car window and I happened to say “I can see a dickhead with our food”, then when he got to the window one of my daughters pipes up “mum he’s not a dickhead”.  Cringe!

What three words best describe you?

Little Miss Sunshine!
